I recommend using one of these FREE following tools:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Google Keyword Planner \u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/adwords.google.com\/intl\/en_uk\/home\/tools\/keyword-planner\/\"> learn more here.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Moz\u2019s Keyword Explorer \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/explorer\">learn more here.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Keywords Everywhere Plugin \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/keywordseverywhere.com\/\">learn more here.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the sake of this guide, I am using the <em>Keywords Everywhere Plugin<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have picked your tool, the first thing we do is type in our main keyword phrase. This should be \u2018Plumber in\u2019 (followed by your local town).<\/p>\n<p>It should look something like this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/improvemysearchranking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/marketing-for-plumbers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8230\" src=\"https:\/\/improvemysearchranking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/marketing-for-plumbers.jpg\" alt=\"marketing-for-plumbers\" width=\"750\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The bit we are interested in is &#8216;volume&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the volume for my keyword is 480. This means there are 480 searches per-month for this particular keyword. This is a good volume.<\/p>\n<p>I suggest finding a volume in the region of 10 \u2013 1,000 searches per month. Don\u2019t\u2019 worry, it\u2019s not all that difficult.<\/p>\n<p>Now that we know our main keyword phrase, the first thing we want to do is stick it into the following places on your homepage:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Title Tag<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Meta Description<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both of these are what we see when Google returns a result. The title tag is simply the title and the meta description is the little description underneath (see example below).<\/p>\n<p>In order to do this, I recommended downloading <a href=\"https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/\"><em>Yoast SEO Plugin<\/em> <\/a>which makes it nice and simple. Read more about how to do this here.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have done this it should look something like the following (notice the keywords are in bold):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/improvemysearchranking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/title-tags-for-plumbers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-8234 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/improvemysearchranking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/title-tags-for-plumbers.jpg\" alt=\"title-tags-for-plumbers\" width=\"474\" height=\"110\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the above two have been completed then the next things to do is set up both a <strong>HTML<\/strong> and <strong>XML<\/strong> sitemap.<\/p>\n<p>Both of these are lists of pages which Google uses to index your website better.<\/p>\n<p>An XML sitemap will be automatically installed once you install <em>Yoast<\/em> and a HTML sitemap can be set up by adding a new page to your site and then adding the following plugin: <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/html-sitemap\/\"><em>HTML Page Sitemap.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The next thing to do is set up a <strong>privacy policy<\/strong> page \u2013 you can get more advice on this by clicking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freeprivacypolicy.com\/\">here<\/a>. Google likes to know your following privacy laws.<\/p>\n<p>It is also important to have your <strong>physical address<\/strong> in the footer of your website. So, make sure you put this in here.<\/p>\n<p>Now we\u2019re getting somewhere!<\/p>\n<p>So, the next optimisation we want to do is to optimise our <strong>image alt-tags. <\/strong>Google doesn\u2019t see an image like we do \u2013 it just see\u2019s a long string of code. So, we need to describe to it exactly what the content of our image is.<\/p>\n<p>To do this we find the image in the media gallery and insert a relevant description under \u2018alt-text\u2019.
