In fact, it is <em>the <\/em>most widely used analytics tool currently available on the web.<\/p>\n<p>However, we can\u2019t deny the fact that Google Analytics can be very daunting and overwhelming \u2014 especially if you are a beginner who is just starting out with Google Analytics.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>If it is the first time you log into your Google Analytics dashboard, you will probably feel more stressed than excited.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Which metrics should you monitor?<\/li>\n<li>What do you have to track on a regular basis?<\/li>\n<li>What are some of the things you can do with Google Analytics?<\/li>\n<li>And \u2026 where is everything?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are some of the questions that beginners often ask.<\/p>\n<p>If you have ever felt something similar, this is the perfect post for you.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, we list a few things that every newbie should regularly monitor \u2014 if he\/she is feeling overwhelmed by all the different metrics and dimensions and can\u2019t monitor all the important stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s begin.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>1. Traffic sources<\/h2>\n<p>How are you driving traffic to your website? More importantly, from where do you get the most amount of traffic to your site?<\/p>\n<p>Is it via email? Social? Or organic search?<\/p>\n<p>Knowing your biggest and most profitable search channel is absolutely essential. Once you identify the best traffic sources, you will be able to stop wasting time and efforts into unproductive channels. At the same time, you will also be able to scale the productive traffic sources.<\/p>\n<p>In Google Analytics, the information about traffic and traffic sources is available in the \u2018Acquisition\u2019 section.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the steps to follow:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Log in to your Google Analytics account.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u2018Acquisition\u2019 in the left sidebar menu.<\/li>\n<li>Select \u2018Overview\u2019 (it is selected by default) to see all the information about your traffic sources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/improvemysearchranking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/google-analytics-for-beginers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7865 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/improvemysearchranking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/google-analytics-for-beginers.jpg\" alt=\"google-analytics-for-beginers\" width=\"1562\" height=\"1616\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>2. Pageviews<\/h2>\n<p>\u2018Pageviews\u2019 is a metric that most people like to monitor anyway.<\/p>\n<p>If you are trying to increase traffic to your website, this is what you should be most interested in.<\/p>\n<p>The idea is to note down the efforts you are making to increase your website traffic and then compare current pageviews with previous periods to track any progress.<\/p>\n<p>To see the pageviews\u2019 number:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Log in to your Google Analytics dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>In the left sidebar menu, click \u2018Behavior\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Select \u2018Overview\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will see \u2018pageviews\u2019 right on the \u2018Overview\u2019 page.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>3. Unique pageviews<\/h2>\n<p>\u2018Pageviews\u2019 refers to the total number of pages visited during the selected time period. For instance, if a visitor lands on your website and visits\/reloads the same page, say for three times, it will be counted as 3 pageviews.<\/p>\n<p>If you are just interested in the number of unique pageviews, then you should look at \u2018Unique pageviews\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>In the above example, Google Analytics will count that activity as 3 pageviews and 1 unique pageview.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>4. Users<\/h2>\n<p>On the other hand, if you are just interested in the number of unique users that were able to drive on your website during a selected time period, you should look at \u2018Users\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>To find that information, click \u2018Audience\u2019 in the left sidebar menu and then select \u2018Overview\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>You should be able to see \u2018Users\u2019 there.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>5. Landing pages<\/h2>\n<p>A normal website has multiple landing pages for different products and services. However, not all of them perform equally well.<\/p>\n<p>It is crucial to identify the best and worst performing landing pages and base your online marketing strategy on that.<\/p>\n<p>To find that information, click on \u2018Behavior\u2019 in the left sidebar menu in your Google Analytics dashboard. After that, click on \u2018Site content\u2019 and select \u2018Landing pages\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The next screen will display all the best performing landing pages which you can then filter for different metrics, e.g., sessions (traffic wise), the percentage of new sessions, new users, bounce rate, average session duration, or goal completions, etc.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>Google Analytics has a wealth of data and information \u2014 there is no doubt about that.
